Our Issue With USAA Claims & Auto Injury Solutions

March 23rd, 2017 Posted by Auto Accidents 0 comments on “Our Issue With USAA Claims & Auto Injury Solutions”

USAA Insurance Company claims to stand behind service members and their families in its advertising.  The commercials evoke feelings of patriotism and service. In these commercials, USAA Insurance claims to have a high customer satisfaction rating; however, in our experience, individuals who have USAA and have been injured in a collision face significant challenges with their coverage.  (more…)

Statute of Limitations for Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse

Children are amongst the most vulnerable members of our society. They need support, care and supervision. Sadly, too many children are taken advantage of by those responsible for their care. Even more troubling is the severity of this breach of trust. Studies show that children who have been sexually abused repress these memories.  It is a common coping mechanism that allows them to survive their tortured environment. Often times it is not until years later that these individuals come to realize that they were victims of childhood sexual abuse. Those afflicted have been repressing these memories and suffering harm their whole lives.  (more…)

“We could lower your personal injury protection (PIP) and that would reduce your monthly payment by $11 and then you could use your PIP for co-pays and deductibles.”

This was nearly verbatim what my insurance agent told me recently when I was looking at options on how to reduce my monthly rate. I was shocked at not only the misguided advice, but frankly the flat out wrong (and potentially illegal) guidance. I’d be willing to bet that this was a regular selling point for this agent and his office. The insurance agents are likely told to use this as a selling point when a potential customer is out shopping for insurance rates. Their advice to “cancel personal injury protection” or “reduce personal injury protection” is flat out dangerous.  (more…)

Is Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage Necessary?

March 13th, 2017 Posted by Auto Accidents 0 comments on “Is Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage Necessary?”

“I was in a collision, hurt my back and now need surgery that will cost $78,000.”

This is almost word for word a phone call our law firm received recently. We consulted with the client and determined that the driver at fault only carried a policy of ONLY $50,000. Fortunately, she has UM/UIM (uninsured/underinsured) motorist coverage well above that amount, but it may still not be enough. Without her uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, she would likely have been stuck with tens of thousands of dollars in medical care. Uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance is an inexpensive buffer against the worst-case scenario of being stuck with a bill for medical care stemming from an auto accident that was someone else’s fault.      (more…)
